The 2021 Ford F150 represents the 14^th generation of the legendary full-sized pickup truck. The entire truck has been redesigned and there are numerous powertrains offered. 2021 Ford F150 Powertrain

The 2021 F150 comes with new engine options. Five gasoline ones (include a hybrid), one diesel and two electric ones. These are available with two-wheel-drive or a four-wheel-drive drivetrain. With the hybrid and electric models, fuel-saving isn’t limited to the EcoBoost engine anymore.

Firstly, we have the base engine, a 3.3-liter V6 with 290hp and 265lb-ft. Secondly, you have the 5.0-liter V8 engine, which makes 400hp and 400lb-ft. There’s the twin-turbo 2.7-liter V6 engine with 325hp and 400lb-ft. There’s another V6, a 3.5-liter twin-turbo making 400hp and 500lb-ft.

Lastly, there’s a 3.0-liter diesel-engine with 350hp and 440lb-ft.

All of the aforementioned Ford trucks come with a 10- speed automatic transmission.

2021 Ford F150 Hybrid and Ford Lightning

The F series reached two new milestones this year. The all-new hybrid engine is a 3.5-liter V6 that combines with a 35kW electric motor. The result? You get 430hp and 570lb-ft, and a range of a whopping 700 miles. But that wasn’t the only brand new truck we got.

The Ford F150 Lightning was also introduced later. It became the first ever all-electric Ford truck. It is available in two configurations. The first one makes 426hp and has a range of 230 miles. The second produces 563hp and it can do up to 300 miles. Both have the same torque figures at 775lb-ft.

Acceleration

With such an extensive range of powertrains, combined with a choice of drivetrains and different cabs; we get numerous performance figures. The quickest time has been achieved so far by the EcoBoost crew cab with 4×4. Motor Trend says it should get from 0-60 in 5.3 seconds. Regardless, all the trucks offered here will be quick as they’re all very powerful.

Fuel Economy

Once again, we have a plethora of ‘mpg’ values. For the gasoline engines, the most economical is the 2.7-liter V6 with rear- wheel drive. It can do up to 20 mpg in the city and 26 on the highway. The worst one is the 5.0-liter V8 with 4WD. It does 16 mpg city and 22 mpg highway. If you’re really keen on saving fuel, then you can get 230-300 miles from the EV truck. Or 700 miles from the hybrid.

Towing and Payload

This is where the pickup truck really comes into play. The F150 is the range topper in the towing capacity conversation. The 3.5-liter V6 can haul up to 14000 lbs, while the sole V8 comes second with 13000 lbs. For the payload capacity, the highest value from an F150 is 3325 lbs. You’ll find that all the outputs are excellent values and you cannot go wrong with any variant.

Reliability

The reliability ratings for the 2021 Ford F150 are mixed. On one hand, you have JD Power who has given it a score of 86 out of 100, calling it “Great”. But then you have Consumer Reports, who gave the truck a poor value of 2 out of 5. At this point, one can only rely on regular 2021 F150 owner reviews.

Design

The 2021 F150 comes with a handsome and practical interior design. From the dials and buttons to instrument-panel to the consoles; you get the feeling that you’re sitting in a large truck. If you pick a diesel, you will be covered for up to 5 years, or 100,000 miles. Unlike some of its rivals, you don’t get free maintenance.

The Ford Raptor is the pride of the F Series range. Like always the Raptor is a high-performance version of the available F150. It is, looks and feels much sportier. It is as quick as the fastest F150 to 60mph with a 5.3-second time. The towing capacity goes all the way up to 8200lbs and the payload to 1400 pounds. The fuel economy is 15/18mpg. But it isn’t really built for your regular trucking needs.

The Raptor is optimized for offroad driving with its suspension, higher ground clearance, and chunkier offroad tires. It is wider for stability and comes with many flashy attributes. Inside, there are bucket seats, carbon fiber accents, and racing decals among other things. Ford is currently working on a sportier version of the Raptor with a V8.

2021 Ford F150: Verdict

The 2021 F150 has proven to be a leader in the full-sized truck category. It is quick, has a lot of horsepower, and drives excellently. The fuel economy is great and so are the class-leading towing and payload capacities. The new hybrid and electric models are refreshing additions to the lineup and have their owne perks. The handling and the ride comfort are superb for its genre. The truck is very practical and is surprisingly very elegant. There are a lot of great safety features.

The downsides aren’t many. One could say that the truck is a bit pricey based on the standard equipment. The 2021 Raptor is also underwhelming, but that could change soon. Regardless, the F150 is clearly the only truck today that holds a candle to the Ram 1500; the undisputed king of the full-sized category.
